The weather was perfect for the Tweed Ride today! Nicole and I went be Savers and Goodwill yesterday to look for outfits. I found a tweed coat and shoes and Nicole found a purple tweed jacket and skirt set. I couldn’t find a bow tie anywhere though so we had to go to Belk to buy one. I borrowed a hat from James and borrowed one of my grandfather’s tobacco pipes from my parents. Saturday night I started watching YouTube videos about how to tie a bow tie but I couldn’t figure it out. Luckily Nicole was able to!
Sunday morning we packed a picnic lunch in Nicole’s basket and biked down to the Clinton Library. The ride was supposed to start around 1 but we met Troeger, Lindsey, James and Jeanne Marie around 11:30 for lunch and Bocce Ball.
People began showing up a little before 1:00 dressed in tweed, argyle and mustaches. TV cameras and journalists were out taking pictures and interviewing riders. Nicole and I were on Channel 7 news tonight and look for us in the Democrat Gazette tomorrow! For a while everyone just stood around and talked, admiring outfits and bicycles. It was a great social outing!
Finally a little after 1:00 we took off down Markham. I’m not sure of the final count but it was somewhere over 70 or 80 riders! We rode through the Rivermarket as and across the Main Street bridge to North Little Rock, down through Argenta and back across to the Old State House. Everyone stopped and took a group photo before continuing on through downtown to the Capitol and turning back to the Rivermarket.
And what better way to end the day than a drink at the Capitol Hotel. Plans are already underway for a seersucker ride later this spring or summer! I can’t wait! For more pictures (and in color) check out this link
